Membership is from September – August and includes five meetings.

Estate Planners and Guests invited by FVEPC members – Guest Fee is $95 per dinner meeting. Guests may sign up for events via EventBrite. When registering, select a “GUEST” ticket.

Guests may attend one meeting, then must apply for membership.

Individuals are invited to join The Fraser Valley Estate Planning Council and attend dinner meetings to be held five times each year.

The Council will:

  1. Provide a forum for, and promote communication among, professionals engaged in the planning and administration of estates and planned gifts;
  2. Offer educational seminars that enhance the professional development of the members;
  3. Encourage mutual understanding among members of the function of each profession represented in Council membership;
  4. Review existing laws and regulations and draft new ones affecting the planning and administration of estates and planned gifts and present the position of the membership of the Council to the appropriate authorities;
  5. Increase awareness and understanding of the mandate of the Council among potential members, clients of members, other professional associations, and the general public.

We hope you will consider joining us and enjoying the benefits of being a member of The Fraser Valley Estate Planning Council. Membership is open to individuals who meet the membership criteria.

Article III MEMBERSHIP

Membership in The Fraser Valley Estate Planning Council is open to individuals who conduct their business or have their residence located in the Fraser Valley and who are:

    1. Members of the British Columbia Bar holding a current practice certificate from the Law Society of British Columbia
    2. Members of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia
    3. Trust or Estate executives or administrators of financial institutions
    4. Members of the Society of Notary Publics B.C.
    5. Members of the Advocis:
      a.  Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
      b.  Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS)
    6. Financial Planners with one of the following professional designations:
      a. Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
      b. Registered Financial Per (RFP)
      c. Certified Investment Manager (CIM)
      d. Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
    7. Portfolio Managers licensed with the British Columbia Securities Commission
    8. Fellows of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries
    9. Academics with relevant expertise representing British Columbia post-secondary institutions
    10. Others who, although they do not meet the criteria for any other category of membership, are deemed by the Executive Committee to have qualifications, knowledge or experience that will advance the purposes of the Council
    11. Honorary or Life Members elected by the membership of the council using criteria established by the Executive Committee

    As a trained legal professional from Europe, Lilian upgraded his legal education at SFU with a Master in Applied Legal studies to become a BC Notary Public. He is an award-winning entrepreneur, Notary Public, and educator, with offices in Langley and Aldergrove. With over 15+ years of estate planning experience, he provides trusted guidance on wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements, and real estate transactions. Known for his clarity, professionalism, and client-centered approach, Lilian works closely with individuals, families, and professionals to ensure thoughtful, customized, and legally sound planning.

    Suzannah’s Bio: 

    Suzannah Denholm is a litigation lawyer and a long-time resident of Surrey. She completed her undergraduate degree at Carleton University School of Journalism, and her law degree at the University of Ottawa. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999 and the British Columbia Bar in 2001.

    Suzannah is a litigator with particular experience in resolving personal law claims, either in court or otherwise. She began working at Hamilton Duncan in 2015 after working at large firms in Ottawa and in downtown Vancouver where she appeared at all levels of Canadian courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

    Presentation Description:

    As legal and financial professionals, we are entrusted with documenting and safeguarding our clients’ intentions. Since much of the case law centers on interpreting and upholding those intentions, this presentation will highlight common issues that arise from faulty planning and the lessons we can learn from them. Drawing on both estate planning and litigation perspectives, we will explore practical strategies to ensure our clients’ wishes are protected and preserved.
